چکیده
Objective: To determine the association between smoking and in-hospital outcomes in patients presented with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methodology: This prospective cohort study was conducted at Department of Cardiology, National Institute Cardiovascular Disease (NICVD), Karachi, from November 9, 2020 to May 8, 2021. All (current smoker, ex-smoker non-smoker) age 18 years 85 years, both gender, diagnosed STEMI accordance operational definition underwent PCI were included. Patients divided into two groups, expose (smoker) unexposed (nonsmoker). Before PPCI demographic detail noted body mass index calculated after management then performed. In hospital outcome i.e. heart failure, mortality transient ischemic attack assessed within 30 days stay PCI. collected data entered proforma. Results: Mean ±SD exposed group 56.5±11.8 non-exposed 57.7±12.1 years. wise distribution 82 (70.7%) males 34 (29.3%) females enrolled 80 (68.9%) 36 (31.1%) included group. Risk failure 1.4 5.0 times more likely as compared [Relative 1.444 respectively. While risk 0.2 less 0.222] P value found be significant (P=0.030). Conclusion: It is concluded that vice versa case mortality, but we cannot rule out residual confounders.

Smoker's Paradox in Patients With ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.
BACKGROUND Prior studies have found that smokers undergoing thrombolytic therapy for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction have lower in-hospital mortality than nonsmokers, a phenomenon called the "smoker's paradox." Evidence, however, has been conflicting regarding whether this paradoxical association persists in the era of primary percutaneous coronary intervention. METHODS AND RESULTS...
متن کاملPlatelet-To-Lymphocyte Ratio as a Predictor of No-Reflow after Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients with ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Introduction: No-reflow increases the complications and mortality rate of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Therefore, it is important to identify patients at a higher risk of developing no-reflow. This study aimed to systematically review the prognostic value of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) to predict no-reflow. Materials and Methods:</s...
متن کاملDoes SYNTAX score predict in-hospital outcomes in patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention?
BACKGROUND SYNTAX score (SxS) has been demonstrated to predict long-term outcomes in stable patients with coronary artery disease. But its prognostic value for patients with acute coronary syndrome remains unknown. AIM To evaluate whether SxS could predict in-hospital outcomes for patients admitted with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who undergo primary percutaneous coronary inter...
متن کاملComparison of the Success Rate of Treatment with Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention PCI versus Thrombolytic Treatment in Patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Local Hospitals in Iran
Background and Objective: Acute myocardial infarction (MI) is caused due to coronary artery occlusion and divided into two forms of ST-elevation (STEMI) and non-ST-elevation (NSTEMI) myocardial infarction. This study aimed to determine the success rate of treatment with primary PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) versus thrombolysis in the establishment of perfusion and to evaluate the sho...
متن کاملEvaluation of ejection fraction in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
Introduction: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a reperfusion strategy to increase life expectancy and ejection fraction (EF) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. We investigated the effect of location, severity, type of lesion, number and type of vessel involved and time of angioplasty on the increase in EF in STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI (P-PCI) a...
